Practice Philosophy
- Healthcare and its administration are increasingly complex environments. The public healthcare system is facing a crisis of sustainability, under pressure from an aging population. Younger generations are inheriting global challenges with scarce resources and limited power to address them.
- I practice the science, art, and experience of possibility. I study people and processes and look for ways to make things better. I like to look for ways things can synchronize, and people can come together so something innovative might emerge. I believe that anything is possible, and that the solutions to the biggest challenges are within us.
- My practice is evidence-based, as I am an academic and scientist by training. I have been an evaluator, group facilitator, project manager, and writer. My work supports the global movements of busting siloes, community building, and social enterprise. Although I have worked primary in healthcare, my skills can support any area of the human service sectors.
- Have you ever had the feeling that the system you are working in is actually blocking progress and innovation?
- Are you frustrated with traditional approaches to how we are expected to work together and change, and are dissatisfied with rigid models that neither speak to nor enhance your vision?
- Do believe that there is a different way to do things, but you need help as to what that might look like?
I have the tools and knowledge that can help your vision grow, and will work with you to learn how to invest in your team to make it happen.
- My multidisciplinary background as an artist, writer, scientist, clinician, and academic helps me see opportunities to evolve useful practices so they work within complex environments, such as project management and quality improvement.
- My favourite experiences – the ones that drive me onward in this work – are when my clients and colleagues learn something about themselves that shows them they have had the answers all along.
- Complexity applications for human services is a novel field that uses principles and theory to guide the work. Organizations who are seeking strategies to support generative relationships and innovation are at or near a state of readiness to explore, reflect, and transform their practices.
- Healthcare is in a time of flux, and there are bigger and bigger changes coming in the next 3-5 years. The formation of Interdisciplinary and integrated care teams and networks is a global trend, and every context is unique. I have experience working in mental health, substance use, primary care, nursing, and palliative care. The product and purpose of the work fits with these disciplines because the outcomes are not always predictable, and rely on developing a practice to feel satisfaction in the role.
- I am also open to opportunities to develop and apply my experience in sectors beyond healthcare, like education and social enterprise.
